How to Prepare Your Home for Carpet Installation

By Quick Carpet ·

Newly installed carpet on a staircase and hallway in a Michigan home

Ready to schedule your carpet installation in Metro Detroit? Quick Carpet moves the furniture, hauls away the old carpet and installs cleanly.

You don't need to move furniture

Furniture moving is included on our jobs. What does help: emptying dresser drawers, taking breakables and electronics off surfaces, and removing anything from closet floors.

Clear a path and a parking spot

Installers carry long rolls of carpet. A clear route from the driveway to the room and one open parking space saves real time.

Plan for pets and kids

Doors are open, tack strip and knives are out, and there is noise. A closed room or a few hours away is easier on everyone.

Decide on doors and trim beforehand

If interior doors need to be trimmed for a thicker carpet and pad, or if you're painting baseboards, sort that out at the estimate — painting before the floor goes in is easier.

After installation

Vacuum a new carpet a few times over the first weeks to pick up loose fiber from manufacturing. Some new-carpet odor is normal; ventilate for a day or two.
